A new game, Aven Colony, is in beta!

This is a sci-fi colony building game, and a mixture of planetbase, simcity, anno, tropico and things like them.

The game is in beta but not on steam early access, so you'll have to go to their website and try your luck. It will arrive on steam in early 2017.

the website is here:

http://avencolony.com/category/updates/

And Quill18 is doing video for the beta:

Yeah, I think the devellopers aren't chinese... but =\

Actually, I have to say, after I played Sid Meier's Civ6, I strongly consider Oriental Empire as a very good game now. At least it tried its best to stick on the history. Although the pro-china propaganda (the steam trailer and localization order) make me feels awkward...

Even it have major flaws, they'll be fixed by chinese modders in the future. I'm totally supporting this game now. Civilization is not the old Civilization anymore. It used to be history game, not history joke game.

You may know already these games, but if historical accuracy affects your gaming experience, you should try Europa Universalis 4 or Crusader kings 2, I was amazed by the abundance of information and historical details in both of these games.

EU 4 includes the full world map so you can play as China, ruled at the time by the Ming dynasty. The vanilla Crusader Kings II focuses mainly on Europe and Middle East, but I think you can add China with a Mod.

I've spent way too many hours on EU4... Probably hours i should have spent working.

I've had a lot of fun with Rimworld too, though its not really a city builder.
I'm not that attracted by the sci fi base builders though, cause the "buidlings" are usually boring and for city building, well, that spoils the motivation quite a lot.

Both EU4 and CK2 got a discount on steam now!retard

I never played EU4, but I do tried CK2. It was very fun and actually helped me to understand the european culture. The complex feudatorial system is very very different from our centralized imperial tradition. Other games hides this feature to create smoother gameplay, but CK2 really did great on it.

And a video maker (like youtuber, just we use other sites instead) made some very funny play throughs for CK2, it's very pity that it's in chinese so I can't share the fun with you guys...trollWell what I want to say is the game does have multi layers of fun in it.

------------------

For Rimworld, it was really a good game and fun to play, but I keep feeling silly about it...You see, your ship crashed and you want to repair/rebuild your ship to escape, but when travellers or traders came, you didn't come with them; and you can communicate with the orbital, you didn't send a distress call. This keeps make me feel silly about it...poker

Yeah, the "main" objective of making a ship to leave is a bit forgettable.

I think its the main issue of the game, it lacks a proper late game satisfying objective.

Hehe we all need breaks sometimes. A good writer should be an avid reader. In the same way I guess a good game developer should be an avid player too.

I didn’t try Rimworld yet, but I am tempted. I played the hell of dwarf fortress two years ago.

Last monday I started to play a browser game called Lands of lords. The 4th version of the game has just been released one month ago. It’s a strategy/management/ city builder set in a medieval persistent world.

I like the huge diversity of resources and the functioning of the economy; you can really spend hours speculating on the world market. My only concern is that the game will become quite time consuming when my small village will become a large city. The game requires a lot of micro-management.

If you want to try the game you should set up your colony near mine, my realm's name is Kernys, and my character's name Aillas Madouc.

You can upgrade to a premium account (5 euros/month) to increase the chance of boosting the speed of some actions. It doesn’t look too abusive, and at least all premium players are equals (you can't pay more than the premium account fees).

But I think a non-premium player who plays smartly can easily outmatch a premium player making less advantageous choices.

I’m considering going premium.  After all, it looks great and the admin needs to make a living.

A new game, but not very focused on city building - has came out, which is Transport Fever.

In this game you will become a transport tycoon and manage many buses, trams, trains and even ships and airplanes. This is very fun on its own, but also, if you provide goods to the cities/settlements on the map, they will grow and become a metropolis. Somehow this is just like Offworld Trading company, and I like that game too. This "helping build a city" feel is pretty fun too.

Anyway, it's on steam now, you may try it if interested!

A new game, which is by most exciting, a classic theme city builder game - Ostriv, is coming in 2017:

http://ostrivgame.com/home/

By the look of the screenshots, it looks quite like Children of the Nile, but of course it won't have those Egyptian culture mechanics in it. Look at the yard of the house! It really bring back old memories.

It's on greenlight too, vote for it if you like the project!

http://steamcommunity.com/shar.....=773085816

By the way, I found this news on heaven games forums. With annofans, citybuilderforum and sites like them gone silent all of a sudden, and tilted mill forum became all forgotten, I find that the heaven games became a new hub of classic citybuilder fandom.

http://caesar3.heavengames.com.....gi?cid=emp

Here, you may check things that you might be interested, and you can also introduce Ymir to them!

A new game, SugerMill, is coming to steam as early access just 15th Dec!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/538990

SugarMill comes to break the rules of village building simulation. Get ready to deal with food expiration, thirst, real world measurements and transportation of goods with horse drawn carriages. Can you survive?

------------------------------------

And another game, Atomic Society, is in testing as well:

http://www.farroadgames.com/

Atomic Society is a post-apocalyptic town building game set several years after a nuclear war. Society was destroyed. You can rebuild it.

Actually, I have to say that incoming citybuilder games is much more then I was excepted one year ago. And I heard from the developers that Lethis would probably going for a sequel as well.

Next year will be exciting!retard

I just realized that the famous mod team, project anno, which is the developer of the almost-perfect mod D.E.A.P 1701 and I.A.A.M 1404, also announced their own indie game project.

The develop is slowly under progress, and seems they kept a rather low profile while doing that.

their facebook page is here: https://www.facebook.com/Nemos-Inis-Sky-Islands-618961404812977/?fref=ts

check it if you are interested!

PS: A.R.R.C 2170 is from another German team, so it's not a part of project anno, I suppose.

A new space sci-fi city builder, Surviving Mars, is under development by Paradox!

Website is here: https://www.survivingmars.com/

It is said that this game is made by former developers of Tropico series. Don't know whether it's true, but this game surely looks promising!

A new game, Kingdoms & Castles, is under close beta!

http://www.kingdomsandcastles.com/

The website is here. It's graphic is based on voxel, which make it looks like Stonehearth. But the gameplay is more like Stronghold. You don't have to build every wall and pillar, craft every table and bed; in stead you design towers and keeps to protect your land and people. The castle builder part works great, and the general citybuilder part is not bad too, it does have the taste of old classic citybuilders!

The game will be on Steam, you can track it there if you are interested:

http://store.steampowered.com/.....d_Castles/

But the early pre-order goes on GOG only, if you want to support them before the game comes out, here it is:

Hello guys! Today I'll bring the news of 3 new games here. All of them are under development, but I think they are promising!

-------------------------

First we have Saelig: http://store.steampowered.com/.....20/SAELIG/

The early access will be on with in less then a month!

This game is much like Forest Village, which means aimed as a better Banished. The graphic is not as good as Forest Village, but the animation of daliy life is better. The building interor has the details that rivels Stronghold series, your villagers too will have different animations based on their class and what they are doing. And although it doesn't have first person view like Forest Village did, but it does has build-in RPG and trade elements which will make it also share some feature of The Guild series.

If you like that feel, this is definility work for you.

--------------------------

And we have Ancient Cities: http://steamcommunity.com/shar.....=854046403

This is a very great game concept indeed! In all kinds of survival builders, we build our colony from absolutely nothing. We build empires and medeival towns from that - but for the first time, we are going to do this right. We are going to build humanity's first settlement, the very first try to settle down to the land, with out the protection of caves and forests. That makes this same game mechanism makes a lot more sense. And during your game progress, human culture grows with your settlement. You'll discover religion and knowledge, invent tools and weapons. Finally your small village will became the heart of an ancient civilization. Check the video, and you'll see those cube-ish mediterranean style houses, stacks together to create that unique view. It was the first time in the citybuilder game history, that we can have this combined house structure with vertical and angled link! And I believe it's not just me that have waited too long to see this in a game! This one makes me super excited, I'm very looking forward to it. And judging by the trailer, it has great music too!

--------------------------

Last but not least, we have Depraved: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=887245306

This is a colony builder game based on the wild west. This is the very first time that a serious citybuilder game (which is not a small one like 1849) to put the classic themed citybuilder(impressions games, stronghold, Anno, settlers, banished, etc. which you put down every house one by one), together with modern themed citybuilder(Simcity, Cities XXL, Skyline, or even some tycoon games which you assign zones to generate most civilian buildings). It's still a small scaled game which you can put every building one by one, but it also have modern feature like guns and trains. Daily life here is also highly stylized, like gun fights and cowboy business. This is the citybuilder which has the theme and feel that we never really seen before. Definitely worth trying!
